Llanwrtyd Wells, capital of odd.

Llanwrtyd Wells calls itself one of the smallest towns in Britain, and it has made a name for some of the strangest events anywhere. Runners race against horses, competitors snorkel along a peat bog trench, teams pull chariots with mountain bikes and cyclists tour the hills with real ale stops.

The town has its own station on the Heart of Wales line, though services are infrequent, so check timetables carefully and book rooms early around big event weekends.
