Hawick Common Riding
Hawick, Scottish Borders
Hundreds of riders follow the Cornet round Hawick’s boundaries in a week of Border pageantry.
10–12 June 2027Traditional date
Every summer, Border towns ride out on horseback to check their old boundaries, as they have done for centuries. Hundreds of riders follow a young principal — the Cornet, Standard Bearer or Lanimer Queen — and the towns fill with songs, ceremonies and very early mornings.
The ridings run one after another through June, July and August, so a Borders road trip can take in more than one.
